Lunar New Year Luncheon
Picture it. Chinese lanterns hanging all around you. The scent of traditional Chinese food slowly wafting toward you. An atmosphere of red and gold. If you pictured the 700 learning lab on Friday, February 1st, your mind is in the right place! Every year, Mr. Chen and his IB Chinese class host a luncheon as a way to show respect for the teachers of Enloe. In Mr. Chen’s own words, “This is to respect teachers and their teachings”.
This philosophy seemed to be the theme for the luncheon, as many of the students brought it up in their conversations. “In China, it is really important that you respect your elders” quotes Mr. Chen. “This is really a way of giving back to our teachers since they have done so much for us” Junior Cynthia Ma adds. “We also want to spread the Chinese culture to those who don’t know about it.”
Clearly, the teachers simply loved it. Ms. Thorsen exclaimed that “All of the students are very polite.” As the educators were busy enjoying their food, the IB Chinese students were busy serving it. Each one of them seemed equally happy to be there. The food, although store bought, had some degree of authenticity to it. They had everything from fried rice to cashew nuts.
Throughout the event, a chorus of “Thank You!”’s could be heard coming from both the students and the teachers. Overall this Luncheon (made possible by Mr. Chen) truly was enlightening, in every sort of way!
